IDOC and IDJJ recognize front-line staff and fallen heroes
SPRINGFIELD - May 7, 2013 - The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) held a ceremony today to recognize the departments’ past and present heroes. Respective facility and district nominees, who were selected as the officer, agent or specialist of the year, were congratulated and recognized in addition to five of the nominees receiving top honors from their departments.
Parole Agents Honored
CHICAGO - April 30, 2013 – Four agents of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) have been recognized by the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) for their key roles in the arrest and conviction of five offenders who severely assaulted and injured two United Postal Service letter carriers. The IDOC was asked to assist the USPIS in its investigation of the crimes, which were unrelated and occurred in 2011 and 2012.
IDOC Provides Flood Assistance Operations
SPRINGFIELD - April 26, 2013 – Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) staff and inmates have been quick to answer the call as the flood waters began to rise around the state. Several counties have requested assistance either through inmate work crews or sandbag filling operations to assist communities and areas affected by rising rivers and flood waters.

SPRINGFIELD – April 25, 2013 - Big Muddy River Correctional Center is proud to announce the recent opening of its Wellness Center for staff in its efforts of promoting a healthy lifestyle.
2013 Volunteer of the Year Award
SPRINGFIELD - April 23, 2013 – Hugh Bishop at Danville Correctional Center was named the recipient of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) 2013 Volunteer of the Year Award at a recognition ceremony held today in Springfield. Bishop was among volunteers of the agency’s adult correctional centers, who were being honored for their outstanding leadership and dedicated efforts in providing positive change in the lives of inmates.
IDOC hosts Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall
SPRINGFIELD – April 10, 2013 - The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) hosted the Illinois Patriot Guard Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall on April 9, 2013, at the agency’s general headquarters in Springfield. The exhibit pays respect to Illinois’ military men and women who have died while, or as the result of, supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn.
Supplemental Sentence Credit
SPRINGFIELD - February 22, 2013 - The Illinois Department of Corrections is implementing the supplemental sentence credit program, which will strengthen public safety and safety inside state prisons. The new program will allow the department to, after comprehensive review, award up to 180 days of sentence credit to statutorily eligible offenders who demonstrate positive behavior in custody and show a potential for rehabilitation.
Revised Administrative Rules on Sentence Credit
General Overview: There are various forms of sentence credits available to offenders, however not all offenders are eligible for each type of credit. The three most common types of credit are Statutory Sentence Credit, Program Sentence Credit, and Supplemental Sentence Credit.
