In response to a 2004 report (Illinois Online: Recommendations for Universal Broadband Access) commissioned by then-Lieutenant Governor Quinn, the Illinois Broadband Deployment Council was established in 2005. The Council exists to improve access to broadband networks not just for residential consumers, but for public, private and not-for-profit organizations all across the state.
Access to the modern information economy is crucial for every community. Because high-speed Internet (broadband) technology can improve public safety, health care, education and jobs in our state, Illinois established the Broadband Deployment Council.
