“Curb Your Car Week 2014”

Agency Team Coordinators and Participants Needed

Springfield/Sangamon County
May 19-24th, 2014

During “Curb Your Car” week – May 19th - May 24th, 2014 – Springfield- and Sangamon County-based businesses are being encouraged to ask their employees to try alternate modes of transportation when commuting to and from work. The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission, Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council and other organizations are coordinating the week, which highlights the benefits of biking, walking, running, or taking the bus. “Curb your Car” provides an opportunity for employees to perhaps get some exercise, save some money and reduce impacts on the environment!

Sustainable commute options align with the Illinois Bike Transportation Plan, a set of recommendations recently unveiled by Governor Pat Quinn and Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Ann Schneider

Agencies and employees who participate may be eligible for prizes and incentives. Participating CMS employees will receive a link to enter their commute information for the week, including the number of trips, mileage etc. Employees who already use alternate transportation still qualify.

Further details for agency team coordinators and “Curb Your Car” participants are available at the Sangamon County Active Transportation website including the “League of Illinois Bicyclists Bike Safety Quiz Challenge.” CMS is also looking for volunteers to help register state agencies and be agency team coordinators for follow-up with participants.
