Here are some websites that can provide resources and information for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families who are interested in enrolling in or transferring to community-based services:

  • Illinois Division of Developmental Disabilities -- provide a full array of quality, person and community centered services and supports for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in Illinois.

     

  • Illinois Division of Early Intervention – The Early Intervention program's mission is to assure that families who have infants and toddlers, birth to three, with diagnosed disabilities, developmental delays or substantial risk of significant delays receive resources and supports that assist them in maximizing their child's development, while respecting the diversity of families and communities.

     

  • Social Security Administration – Apply for federal disability benefits or supplemental security income.

     

  • Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities – Works to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have the same opportunities to be included in society as any other citizen.

     

  • Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities – Advocates for community-based services and supports.

     

  • People First of Illinois – A group of people with disabilities who work together for justice by helping each other take charge of their lives and fight discrimination.

     

  • UCP of Illinois – United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois provides information, referral, and direct services to children and adults with disabilities.

     

  • American Association on Mental Retardation – Provides information on services and supports for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.

     

  • Autism Society of Illinois – An organization working to increase public awareness about autism and the day-to-day issues faced by individuals with autism, their families and the professionals with whom they interact.

     

  • The Autism Project – A statewide network of resources that joins parents, physicians, community agencies and the schools to create a safety net for the lifelong needs of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

     

  • The ARC of Illinois – Provides information on community-based living for the disabled community advocates for community-based services and support.

     

  • Illinois Lifespan Project - Information and referral source for advocacy and service systems.

     

  • Family Support Network of Illinois – Unifies individuals with disabilities and their families to advocate for funding, services, and community resources that strengthen and support the individual and the family directly by responding to their individual needs and empowering them to live in their own homes.

     

  • Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living – Coordinates the activities and efforts of all Center’s for Independent Living (CIL). CIL’s empower individuals with disabilities to take charge of their lives and make their own choices and decisions in order to be as self-sufficient as possible.

     

  • Equip for Equality – Civil and human rights advocates for people with disabilities.

     

  • Statewide Independent Living Council of Illinois (SILC) -- provide leadership, research, planning and education required to support independent living services in Illinois. SILC works to expand and support existing CILs and develop new programs in unserved and underserved areas.

     

  • University Center for Excellence, Education, Research and Service (UCE) in Developmental Disabilities.
