Inaugural Meeting of the Illinois HIE Authority

On April 27, 2011, the inaugural meeting of the Illinois HIE Authority was held at the Michael A. Bilandic Building in Chicago. Board member Cheryl Whitaker, MD, was chosen as the Board’s chair.

Appointed by Governor Quinn on February 8, 2011, the Illinois HIE Authority Board of Directors will be responsible for overseeing the statewide health information exchange, which will allow healthcare providers to exchange electronic health information, provide authorized access to comprehensive medical records, prevent duplicate tests and procedures, and assure the accuracy of prescription drugs and other medical orders.

Governor Quinn Appoints Health Information Exchange Board

The Illinois Office of Health Information Technology is pleased to announce that Governor Pat Quinn has appointed the Illinois Health Information Exchange (HIE) Authority Board of Directors. The Authority was created by the Illinois Health Information Exchange and Technology Act (P. A. 96-1331) to oversee the statewide electronic health information exchange.


HB6441 Will Establish a State Authority to Operate the Illinois Health Information Exchange

On March 26, 2010, the Illinois House of Representatives passed House Bill 6441 which, will create the Illinois Health Information Exchange and Technology Act and establish a State authority to operate the Illinois Health Information Exchange.
