As Governor of Illinois, it is my great honor to welcome New Americans to the Land of Lincoln.
For nearly two centuries, we have opened our gates to men and women who traveled here from all over the world, hoping to become Americans. Today, the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of those courageous immigrants are working together to make Illinois a stronger, more prosperous state.
On March 31 2010, I honored the legacy and contribution of Illinois’ immigrants past and present by creating the Governor’s Office of New Americans. Through this Office, the State of Illinois will promote policies and initiatives that will build on the strength of immigrants, their families, and the many organizations that work alongside them.
Over the years, Illinois has led the nation in helping immigrants make their way in this new land. Through this Office of New Americans, we will continue that work by listing resources and services for immigrants and recommending new laws and rules that will help them through this time of transition.
It is my pleasure to welcome you to this website, and to Illinois. We are proud that you have chosen to make Illinois your new home.
