New Vocational Program will assist in training and finding homes for retired racing Greyhounds
SPRINGFIELD - November 29, 2012 - The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) has teamed up with the L.A.R.K. (Loving Arms Rehabilitation Kennel) Program, a rescue and rehabilitation program for retired racing Greyhounds, and the Midwest Greyhound Adoption (MGA) to help prepare the dogs for adoption.
Summit of Hope helps more than 9,000 ex-offenders in Illinois to successfully reenter society and lower recidivism
CHICAGO – Planning is now underway for a Summit of Hope event to be held November 16, 2012 at Malcolm X College, 1900 West Van Buren Street, Chicago, IL 60612 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Summit of Hope is an invitation-only event for local state and federal parolees.
IDOC Staff Joins Together to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
During the month of October, Illinois Department of Corrections staff is showing their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. At the IDOC General Headquarters in Springfield, the Springfield Employee Benefit Fund sold some 325 pink IDOC polo shirts with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.

SPRINGFIELD- Illinois – August 14, 2012 – The Illinois Department of Corrections is excited about an effort that began as a vocational opportunity for offenders and has become another avenue for facilities to “go green” and give back to their local communities.
Mom and Me Camp
DECATUR, Illinois – August 7, 2012 – The Illinois Department of Corrections is hosting the “Mom and Me Camp” at two facilities in Central Illinois next week. This program runs August 5th- 8th at the Lincoln Correctional Center and the Decatur Correctional Center.
IDOC Chief of Investigations and Intelligence Larry Beck honored with Patriotic Employer Award for his support to the military
Springfield – July 31, 2012 - The Illinois Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) recently recognized IDOC Chief of Investigations and Intelligence Larry Beck with the Patriotic Employer Award for his outstanding support of IDOC employee Kehinde Salami. The Patriotic Employer Award publicly recognizes employers for their exceptional patriotic support and cooperation to their employees.
Dixon Correctional Center Sustains Storm Damage
Severe storms swept through Lee County last night causing a power outage and significant damage to Dixon Correctional Center. The Illinois Department of Corrections is in the process of assessing the full extent of the damage, however due to roof damage in several units, 78 inmates are being temporarily transferred to Pontiac CC.
Illinois Department of Correction launches pilot program producing and using bio-diesel fuel
SPRINGFIELD –The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) recently created a pilot program that couples inmate rehabilitation with the department’s initiative to go green. In 2007 Menard Correctional Center’s Industries program began producing bio-diesel fuel from waste vegetable oil recycled from IDOC facilities around the state. That program has now come full circle with an IDOC transfer bus equipped to run on the bio-diesel fuel.
Illinois Department of Corrections Launches Sustainability Initiative
Springfield, IL- The Illinois Department of Corrections has launched its first Sustainability Initiative, a plan to build a culture of conservation within the agency to empower staff and offenders to be better stewards of natural resources.

Steve Higgs named recipient of the IDOC 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award
SPRINGFIELD - April 4, 2012 – Steve Higgs at Big Muddy River Correctional Center was named the recipient of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) 2012 Volunteer of the Year Award at a recognition ceremony held today in Springfield.
IDOC “Moms and Babies” Celebrates 5th Anniversary
DECATUR – March 28, 2012 – The Illinois Department of Corrections will celebrate the fifth year of its successful “Moms and Babies” Program on March 28th, 2012 at the Decatur Correctional Center. This program allows offenders to keep their babies while incarcerated after giving birth. The program has a zero recidivism rate meaning none of the offenders who have been part of this program have returned to prison on new charges.
SECA Ambassadors Recognized
Illinois Department of Corrections State and University Employees Combined Appeal (SECA) ambassadors were recognized for their outstanding efforts in educating employees about the gift of giving to the SECA Campaign and their implementation of the annual campaign. For the 11th consecutive year, IDOC has been the highest giving agency to SECA.
Summit of Hope helps ex-offenders in Illinois

Illinois Department of Corrections cadet graduation
SPRINGFIELD – February 10, 2012 – Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Director S.A. Godinez announced that 138 correctional officer cadets graduated today at a ceremony held at IDOC’s Concordia Campus in Springfield. The new correctional officers will be assigned to IDOC correctional centers throughout the state.
IDOC Intelligence Unit recognized
SPRINGFIELD – February 6, 2012 – The Chicago Police Department (CPD) Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 7 recently presented several Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Intelligence Unit staff with a Certificate of Appreciation for their work in assisting the CPD Detective Division in the investigation of the 2010 shooting death of CPD Officer Michael Bailey.
Illinois Department of Corrections partners with AIDS Foundation Chicago
CHICAGO – January 26, 2012 – The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) has a new educational tool to use in its efforts to help offenders understand the importance of HIV/AIDS education. IDOC has teamed up with AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC), which has produced a new video featuring former offenders in the quest to educate other inmates about the importance of HIV/AIDS testing, education and treatment.
