SPRINGFIELD – December 20, 2013 – IDOC General Headquarters employees recently celebrated the holidays with 49 children at Harvard Park Elementary School in Springfield with a pizza lunch and gifts. The event marks the 8th consecutive year that IDOC employees have reached out to the children at Harvard Park in the spirit of holiday giving.
“The agency is proud of its employees and their exceptional sense of giving,” said IDOC Director S.A. “Tony” Godinez.
“Many of the agency’s employees are humble in making a difference in the lives of others, yet instrumental in organizing, inspiring and developing drives and donations for their local communities. It’s through this sense of giving that helps to bond communities and make them stronger,” he added.
IDOC employees Mike Funk, manager of Jail and Detention Standards Unit, and Michelle Buscher, commissioner of Interstate Compact, organize the event.
“The holiday celebration at Harvard Park Elementary School has grown over the years with participants and has become an annual event that both the employees and children enjoy,” said Funk.
“Each employee participating in the event provides lunch and a gift for a student. The event is just one of many ways IDOC employees serve as a good neighbor to the community.”
