SPRINGFIELD - June 27, 2014 – The Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Office of Staff Development and Training recently recognized Big Muddy River Correctional Center for its exceptional commitment toward the training and development of staff. Big Muddy River Correctional Center was awarded with the IDOC Training Academy Traveling Trophy at an annual training coordinators meeting held June 12, 2014, at IDOC General Headquarters in Springfield.

“We would like to thank Warden Roeckeman and all the staff at Big Muddy River Correctional Center for their dedication to this cause,” said Manager of Staff Development and Training Felipe Zavala. “The trophy represents the highest award that a facility training office can receive by paving the way for all IDOC institutions to mirror in the importance of training staff.”

The Office of Staff Development and Training is responsible for all pre-service and in-service training needs for the entire department and is headquartered at the Training Academy in Springfield. Its mission is to support and contribute to the mission of IDOC through the development of quality training in all subjects identified as necessary for carrying out the department’s responsibilities. Professionalism, accountability and the highest ethical standards are emphasized.
