SPRINGFIELD – Jan. 24, 2014 - IDOC Educators Scott Allison and Rick Robbins at Illinois River Correctional Center (IRCC) were recipients of commendations for their roles in recent tornado relief efforts. On Jan. 23, 2014, Allison and Robbins were recognized by IRCC Warden Greg Gossett for their efforts in transporting materials donated to areas affected by the devastating tornadoes on November 17, 2013. Both employees used their own time and vehicles to ensure all donations were delivered to those in need during this difficult time.

The donation was a group effort of staff and inmates from Illinois River and Hill Correctional Centers. Food, clothing and supplies were donated to the people of Tazewell County who were impacted by the tornadoes.

“The donation actually began as a contest between Illinois River and Hill Correctional Centers to see who could donate the most items to Tazewell County tornado victims,” said IRCC Warden Greg Gossett. “Staff and offenders joined together in the contest to help the citizens of East Peoria, Washington and Pekin. We appreciate everyone’s time and dedication who donated items, helped a neighbor with cleanup or said a prayer.”
