PEORIA -- The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois are celebrating 100 years with a leadership luncheon.
Former Girl Scouts gathered at the Civic Center for lunch and learning.
Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon was the key note speaker and our very own Lisa Miller was the emcee.
CEO for the Central Illinois Council Pam Kovacevich said today's event also kicks off a new initiative for the organization.
She said, "To Get Her There is a national initiative that really hopes to equal the balance of the girls in the board room, in the operating room at the bank table, you know girls want to be in leadership roles but they have a little bit of a fear of failure in those roles so Girl Scouts provides an opportunity to learn some leadership skills."
The Central Illinois Council is the 12th largest in the nation. It reaches out to 38 counties and more than 22,000 girls.
