Illinois Lt. Gov. Simon advocates for mental health
September 13, 2013
CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS)- Mental health funding in Illinois has been slashed due to budget cuts.
Between 2009 and 2011, Illinois cut funding for mental health services by almost $114 million.
As part of the budgeting for results commission, Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon toured facilities around the state.
On Friday, she toured a facility in Carterville. For over 50 years, The H-group in Carterville has provided services in Franklin, Jackson and Williamson County.
The group will advocate for the programs which will help advise Gov. Pat Quinn on the fiscal year 2015 budget.
"We want to make sure that people receive funding not just because that agency or that facility got funding last year but because they can show us that they are doing a good job," said Simon.
