Bruce Rauner, Governor
Illinois River Work Group
The Illinois River Work Group is the technical group for implementation of the Illinois River Basin Restoration. The Group works with the Science Advisory Committee and identifies new river restoration projects for the Illinois River Team to recommend to the Illinois River Coordinating Council for funding.
Since they were established in 2008, they have identified 27 new projects for the Illinois River Reach in addition to 6 critical restoration projects for Section 519 that are in the Main Stem of the River. Over 57 biologists, hydrologists, restoration specialists participated and provided input for project selection.
Once projects are identified, the Group submits them to the Illinois River Team for prioritization. The Illinois River Team then recommends priority projects to the Illinois River Coordinating Council. The Council approves the State’s priorities and submits the recommendation to the US Army Corps of Engineers for funding consideration.
The Illinois River Work Group is chaired by Mr. Doug Blodgett, The Nature Conservancy and Illinois River Coordinating Council member, Mr. Rick Mollahan, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the US Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District.
The Illinois River Work Group meetings are quarterly and open to the public.
