SPRINGFIELD, IL — Lt. Governor Sheila Simon testified Thursday before the Senate Education Committee in support of a sweeping education reform bill.

The legislation is designed to promote excellent teaching, weight teacher performance in retention, provide more transparency in contract negotiations and introduce new steps prior to a strike.

Simon commended Senator Kimberly Lightford's Education Reform Workgroup for bringing education and business stakeholders to the table to reach this consensus bill, which she says has the potential to improve education for all Illinois students.

Simon says the bill is supported by Governor Quinn.

A broad-based coalition, including the Illinois Federation of Teachers, the Illinois Education Association and the Chicago Teachers Union also announced their support of the bill.
