Lt. Governor Calls for More Affordable College Tuition
By Jeff Williams
Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon is pushing an effort to make college tuition more affordable.
Simon wants to draw from state and federal resource such as scholarship opportunities and other means to make college more affordable for more students. That includes the creation of college choice reports. That would make it easier for families to compare tuition, average student debt, and degree completion rates at different schools.
Simon says a recent Pew Research Center report found students amassed an average of more than 26-thousand dollars in student loans in 2010. Simon will be on the SIU Carbondale campus on Monday where she will hold a brown-bag lunch meeting with faculty and staff in the student center.
