Lt. Governor Simon confident Chicago will receive FEMA funding

CHICAGO – March 21, 2011. Lt. Governor Sheila Simon toured the Office of Emergency Management and Communications in Chicago today to get a firsthand look at how city officials respond to emergencies. Led by OEMC Executive Director Jose Santiago, the tour included briefings from officials in 911 emergency services and 311 city services.

Statement from Lt. Governor Simon: “In light of the events in Japan and our state’s historic February storm, I visited Chicago’s centralized command station to view their public safety capabilities and needs for the future. I commend President Obama for making federal disaster aid available to 60 counties in Illinois that were affected by the severe winter snowstorm, and I am optimistic that Chicago will recover a large portion of the $37.3 million it spent on removal and recovery. OEMC is working with the federal government to ensure that the city gets this help as quickly as possible.”
