Lt. Governor Simon chairs the Mississippi River Coordinating Council, composed of a diverse group of citizens, not-for-profit organizations, and state and federal agencies. Through a public dialogue, the Council coordinates initiatives, projects and funding to promote the ecological health of the Mississippi River and its tributaries by addressing the issues in the watershed.
Established in 2010, the Mississippi River Coordinating Council is modeled after the successful Illinois River Coordinating Council and charged with coordinating policies and programs promoting the intertwined environmental and economic health of the Mississippi River and its tributaries within the State of Illinois.
