Monday deadline for school merger comments

SPRINGFIELD – Time is almost up for the public to comment on a plan meant to make Illinois schools more efficient.
The proposal from the Classrooms First Commission calls for helping schools share budget information so they’ll see how other districts are saving money. It also calls for the state to make it easier for small schools to consolidate.
The plan does not include any mandatory merger of schools.
Monday is the final day for public comments. After that, the commission will finalize its recommendations and submit them to the governor and General Assembly.
