CARTERVILLE – Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon of Carbondale will join AT&T Illinois and John A. Logan College officials to announce a new community college outreach initiative with AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign against texting while driving.
Simon is scheduled to appear on the college campus at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Atrium, located downstairs in the main building.
“Our community colleges are doing tremendous work educating students and shaping lives,” Simon said. “With so many students commuting to our community college classes, I believe it also is important to educate these drivers about the tremendous dangers of texting while driving, and to encourage them to take the pledge to never text and drive again.”
Also scheduled to speak on the subject are AT&T Illinois’ Vice President for External Affairs, Jim Maurer, and JALC President, Dr. Mike Dreith.
The AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign is focusing attention on Sept. 19 as “No Text on Board Pledge Day,” where the company is asking all drivers to take the pledge to never text and drive again.
