EFFINGHAM, Ill. - Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will talk about her support for President Barack Obama's American Jobs Act at an economic summit in southern Illinois.
Simon will speak at the Downstate Economic Summit in Effingham on Thursday.
Simon's office says the jobs act would support 14,500 education and first responder jobs in Illinois. And it could also provide nearly $1.1 billion to modernize public schools and $200 million for community college facility upgrades.
Simon will also talk about her role as chair of the 25-member Governor's Rural Affairs Council.
The council's focus includes developing markets for local foods and improving emergency services in rural areas, among other issues.
Later Thursday, Simon will speak at the Southern Illinois Volunteerism Conference in Mount Vernon.
