AmeriCorps Illinois School Turnaround Grants

The Department of Human Services (DHS) and the Serve Illinois Commission (Serve Illinois), in cooperation with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and the U.S. Department of Education (ED) is now accepting applications for the “School Turnaround AmeriCorps FY13” AmeriCorps grant.

The goal of the School Turnaround AmeriCorps initiative is to increase educational achievement, high school graduation rates, and college readiness for students in Illinois’ lowest performing elementary, middle, and high schools. (CNCS Announcement of Federal Funding Opportunity). Successfully selected programs will apply for a minimum of 20 Member Service Years (MSYs) and a federal grant of $250,000 to $1,000,000 for cost reimbursement grants or $16,000 to $80,000 for education-award fixed amount grants. $5,000,000 will be made available by CNCS and ED for this national competition. The grants will be made for up to three years with the possibility of renewal after the initial term.

All Illinois based applicants must apply to DHS via Serve Illinois through the EGrants system (see attached application instructions). In order for applications to be considered complete, organizations must participation in an online bidders conference and an initial letter of intent are required.
