Barbara Byrne is currently the Grants & Program Manager for Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging (WIAAA). Prior to this position, she served as Co-Director of RSVP (Retired and Volunteer Program), covering Rock Island, Knox, Warren, Mercer & Henry Counties in Illinois which is sponsored by WIAAA. Through her involvement with RSVP and WIAAA, Barb became a part of the Illinois Civic Engagement of Adults 55+ initiative and served on the Volunteer Management sub-committee.
Barb grew up in Monmouth, Illinois but moved to Minneapolis, MN after graduating from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana with a degree in Psychology. In Minneapolis, Barb enjoyed a 21 year career in Human Resources with U.S. Bancorp, ending as Vice-President, Regional Human Resource Manager in the Consumer Banking division. She “retired” from her corporate job to move back to Illinois to raise her youngest 2 children. There she was able to feed her passion for volunteerism and community involvement and eventually developed an “encore” career in social services serving as director of a youth program as well as her positions with RSVP.
After moving to Illinois, she served for 7 years on the Warren Co. United Way Board of Directors including terms as Treasure and President. She is very active in a leadership role in her church as an elder and serving as chair of a “Wash Day” Ministry outreach of the church. She also coordinates the Warren Co. Citizen Corps and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs, training citizen volunteers to help the community in a time of disaster. In the Quad Cities she has served on the Rock Island Co. Citizen Corps, the Quad Cities Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), and Mississippi Valley DOVIA.
Barb lives in Monmouth, Illinois with her husband Larry who is the Director of Business Services for Carl Sandburg Community College.
