Dr. Cynthia Sims is Associate Professor in the Department of Workforce Education and Development at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She has been teaching and advising adult learners in institutions of higher education for over 15 years and also has experience in program development & management, grant-writing & management, and training and development. Her passion for service and civic engagement has been demonstrated by her continuous involvement in service-learning initiatives, including teaching service-learning courses for DePaul University, developing service-learning programs in southern Illinois, training faculty to integrate service-learning into their curricula, securing grants for service-learning program development, presenting her service-learning research at conferences, and writing articles about the value of service-learning. Dr. Sims is the mother of two daughters, and she enjoys volunteering with them to teach them the importance of community service.
