Jennifer Witzel is currently the Coordinator for the One Hope United Foster Grandparent Program through the Corporation for National and Community Service in Mt. Vernon Illinois. Jennifer helped establish the program 10 years ago which serves low income seniors who spend their time mentoring and tutoring children in the counties of Jefferson, Wayne, Franklin, and Williamson Counties. Over the past 10 years the program has received several awards from the Illinois Board of Education for the service of the volunteers.
Jennifer has been with One Hope United for 15 years. Prior to her position as Foster Grandparent Coordinator, she worked as a supervisor in the Residential Program serving abused and neglected children. During this time she also was able to utilize Foster Grandparents to help provide a safe environment for the children in her care.
Jennifer has volunteered her time as a board member for many great causes such as Project Rescue of Jefferson County and CASA of Jefferson County. She is currently the President of the Illinois Association of Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Directors, where she strives to guide the states Coordinators/Directors to become the best programs in the state. She has also chaired and co-chaired the Southern Illinois Volunteerism Conference supporting and promoting volunteerism in Southern Illinois.
When Jennifer isn’t promoting or supporting volunteers in her area, she might be seen flying high in her hot air balloon which is another passion she shares with her husband Kevin.
