Michael Mangan is Director of the Service-Learning Project at The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He came to The Center in 2004, after more than 30 years at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), where he was Assistant Manager of the Educational Equity Division and held several other professional and managerial positions.
In his capacity as The Center’s Service-Learning Project Director, he has primary responsibility for the development and delivery of training and technical assistance to K-12 service-learning projects throughout Illinois. Mr. Mangan served as interim coordinator of the Illinois K-12 Learn and Serve America Program in 2005-2006 and is currently Co-Chair of the National Coalition for Academic Service-Learning (NCASL).
Michael earned a B.A. in English from Lehigh University, an M.A. in Comparative Literature from Indiana University and did additional graduate work in the German language and literature at the University of Hamburg, Germany. He is the author of the ISBE publication, Building Cross-Cultural Competence: a Handbook for Teachers.
