On Tuesday, January 13, 2009, about 25 people gathered in the Macomb City Hall Community Room for a meeting of the West Central Illinois Volunteer Management Network. The meeting consisted of updates from the Serve Illinois Commission, a panel discussion on volunteer screening and risk management issues with panelists Judy Taylor of the University of Illinois Extension and Ken Kedzior of the Illinois State Police, and a group discussion facilitated by Carla Gosney, Director of RSVP at John Wood Community College in Quincy, Illinois.
Topics addressed included the formation of a regional committee for the 2009 West Central Illinois Volunteerism Conference, the possibility of a group starting a volunteer center in Peoria, and individual plans for the MLK Day of Service. Following the meeting, several attendees stayed for an informal networking lunch and had the opportunity to further share ideas with each other.
