The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Prince Home at Manteno is a residential program for homeless and disabled Veterans. Opened in 2007, the Prince Home at Manteno provides housing and supportive services for homeless Illinois Veterans, helping them cope with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), substance abuse, and other challenges.
General Overview
The purpose of the Prince Home at Manteno is to serve homeless veterans and equip them to achieve individual growth and independence. Fostering integrity, respect, and dignity, the Home provides comprehensive housing, advocacy, therapeutic and supportive services. More than three-quarters of the veterans who complete the Prince Home program go on to live productive and independent lives. In addition, leadership at the Home contribute to the mission of reducing veteran homelessness statewide by working with and advising community service providers, private organizations and other state agencies on federal veteran programs and successful practices.
Facility Details
Maximum occupancy of Prince Home at Manteno is 15. The facility is wheelchair assessable, and provides residential housing for eligible male and female Veterans. It offers a community environment within its therapeutic milieu, one of structure, interdependence and care and concern. Volunteer work, employment and treatment compliance is correlated to the vision of total independence. Staff is proficient in addressing a multitude of challenges including but not limited to, homelessness, PTSD, sobriety, self esteem, and hopelessness. It is the resident's responsibility to take advantage of these resources. Prince Home is not a shelter, it is home and residents must participate in the entire scope of the curriculum, programs and activities.

The Prince Home at Manteno is located in rural Manteno, Illinois in Kankakee County, just 40 miles south of Chicago. It shares grounds with the Illinois Veterans' Home at Manteno.
