Mission: Veterans 2 Entrepreneurs

Mission: Veterans 2 Entrepreneurs (MV2E) is an Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) and Central Management Services (CMS) joint-led initiative that provides veterans and returning servicemembers with up-to-date information, resources and assistance in becoming a successful business owner.  This includes assistance in three central focus areas:

  1. Assisting veterans in starting their own business;opportunities with local, state and federal agencies;
  2. Informing veterans as to how they can certify their business as “veteran-owned” with the State of Illinois and be eligible for the 3-percent goal of all state contracts and services.
  3. Providing guidance as to how veteran-owned businesses can pursue and obtain procurement.

MV2E brings together government agencies, educational institutions, trade associations, business sector experts, small business development centers, and prominent employers to accomplish this mission, capitalizing on broad cross-sector expertise to effectively educate veterans as to resources and opportunities available to veteran-owned businesses in the State of Illinois.

IDVA and its partner organizations host a variety of training seminars and informational fairs across the state to deliver pertinent MV2E information and resources to veterans and returning servicemembers.  Past events have included specialized training sessions with the Illinois Capital Investment Board, the Elite SDVOB Network, the Illinois Department of Commercial and Economic Opportunity, and the Illinois Department of Transportation, among many others.  At the same time, participants who attend MV2E events have a unique opportunity to network and exchange best practices with agency experts, employers, like-minded professionals, and fellow veterans.

Accordingly, MV2E participants gain personalized assistance in a number of important areas, including:

  • Procurement opportunities;
  • Business certifications;
  • Application procedures;
  • Writing a business plan;
  • Managing business finances;
  • Gaining access to capital;
  • Marketing and branding;
  • And other key steps in the business process.
