As a signatory to the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission
, a national initiative aimed at easing transitions for our military families, Illinois agreed to create a body to review issues pertaining to military families' experience with education in our state. Established by Public Act 96-0953
in 2010, the IL Educational Opportunities for Military Children Council (IEOMCC) is charged with addressing the challenges facing students of military families as the navigate the educational system.
In accordance with the authorizing legislative language, this group will operate under the oversight of the P-20 Council. The P-20 Council will assist with the coordination of state agencies, local government, and military installations in an effort to best meet the needs of those who serve our country.
Brian Riegler, principal of Waukegan High School, has been selected as the new Commissioner of the IL Educational Opportunities for Military Children Council.
