Consolidating, Eliminating and Optimizing for the State of Illinois

Benefit Redeterminations for Out-of-State Users: By appropriately cancelling and managing cases for out-of-state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Temporary Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (TSNAP), and Qualified Medicare Benefits (QMB) programs, IDHS has saved the State of Illinois approximately $2.9 million since January of 2016.

Office Consolidation: The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) engaged in office consolidation efforts in Northern Illinois and other satellite offices throughout Illinois to decrease the amount of square footage and to eliminate multiple leases. These efforts have resulted in fewer costs for lease expenditures.

Curbing Travel Costs: With stricter guidelines and monitoring of travel requests, IDHS has lowered the number of travel expenses while also ensuring that any travel is using the most economical resources. Whenever possible, employees are now encouraged to use alternative transportation options, such as video conferences, teleconferences, and webinars.
