Reducing Administrative Burdens on Applicants for Air Pollution Control Permits

Through the coordination and negotiations with the regulated air permit community, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) amended the Environmental Protection Act to allow for a permit-by-rule rather than a permit itself. This negates the requirement for regulated entities to regularly apply for certain permits, avoiding the time and expense of retaining a consultant. This creates fewer obligations for regulated businesses, provides more certainty as to the requirements for these activities, and lessens necessary staff resources.
