Training Offenders Skills While Incarcerated to Prevent Re-Entry into the Prison System

Through the pilot program at the Kewanee prison with the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC), prisoners are provided with educational tools, job readiness preparation and cognitive behavior therapy resources to prepare them for re-entry into society. IDOC also addresses training on personal skills like setting up a bank account upon re-entry or using computer technology. These programs arm offenders with proficiencies for success while minimizing the potential cost to taxpayers if they return to prison.
