Senior Companion Services

Senior Companion agencies provide an array of assistive, supportive companionship services to frail seniors by utilizing volunteers, also age 60 or older, who have limited income.

How It Works

These services are available to Community Care Program clients who have been determined to need companionship in conjunction with current In-Home Service or Adult Day Service.

Clients pay no portion of the cost of companion care services. The companion service is provided by low-income older volunteers who are recruited, trained, managed and reimbursed by Senior Companion agencies.

Services

The Senior Companion Program not only assists clients, it also provides economic and social benefits for the volunteers as well as respite for family caregivers.

Services may include, but are not limited to, ...

  • providing companionship in social interactions,
  • peer counseling,
  • fostering client contact with family and friends,
  • assisting clients in applying for public services, and
  • addressing their unmet needs with community leaders, CCU staff and other care providers.
