The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has played a key role in Illinois history, especially its colorful sports history. The IHSA, organized by high school principals in 1900, is a non-profit organization that conducts state championships in fourteen boys and fifteen girls sports. In addition, the IHSA holds events in eight non-athletic activities, including a scholastic bowl and also licenses sports officials, runs a sportsmanship campaign, and provides for an annual All-Academic Team.
