This program is conducted through agreements with 90 local health departments.

An individual who has successfully completed a nursing program equivalent to a LPN or RN in a foreign country and who has moved to the United States but has not taken a licensure exam cannot work as a nurse. The individual cannot work as an Illinois CNA until the registry shows that the individual has met the training requirements.

IDPH regulates Community-Based Children's Health Care Centers - designated sites that provide nursing care, clinical support services, and therapies for a period of one to 14 days for short-term respite care stays and one to 120 days to facilitate transitions to home or other appropriate settings for medically fragile children, technology dependent children, and children with special health care needs who are deemed clinically stable by a physician and are younger than 22 years of age. This care is to be provided in a home-like environment that serves no more than 12 children at a time.

IDPH regulates construction of modular homes and commercial mobile structures located in Illinois. Staff review plans for each model to be located in Illinois to ensure that these units meet minimum structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and energy conservation standards. About 1,300 modular homes and commercial mobile structures are placed in Illinois annually.

IDPH protects the public from improperly prepared and used pesticides and from groundwater contamination around commercial pesticide storage sites and promotes the concept of integrated pest management in schools. Illinois has approximately 750 licensed structural pest control business locations as well as 60 registered non-commercial (not-for-hire, in-house pest control) locations that use restricted pesticides. IDPH licenses and routinely inspects each of these locations. It also certifies approximately 2,600 individuals by examination to use or oversee the application of general and restricted-use pesticides and investigates incidents of pesticide misuse.
