The Benefit Choice Period will be May 1 through June 15, 2012, for all Teachers’ Retirement Insurance Program (TRIP) benefit recipients. The FY2013 Benefit Choice Options booklet contains the latest information regarding the Benefit Choice Period options, as well as other benefit information. Elections will be effective July 1, 2012.
During the annual Benefit Choice Period, benefit recipients are allowed to make changes to their group insurance coverage, such as add a dependent or change their health plan. Benefit recipients should make all Benefit Choice changes on the Benefit Choice form available on the TRS website or by calling TRS at (800) 877-7896. Only members wishing to make a change to their coverage should complete the form. The Benefit Choice form must be submitted to TRS by June 15, 2012.
During the annual Benefit Choice Period, benefit recipients may:
- Change health plans. Members interested in a certain health plan may view their provider directory on the plan's website.
- Add dependent coverage if never previously enrolled.

All Benefit Choice changes should be made on the Benefit Choice Form available through the Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) website (trs.illinois.gov). Benefit recipients should not complete a form if no changes are being made. If you are enrolling yourself or an eligible dependent for the first time during the Benefit Choice Period, please contact TRS at (800) 877-7896 for a TRIP enrollment application. All forms must be submitted to TRS for processing.
