Dixon Springs

UPDATE: The Pool is CLOSED.
The public swimming pool and barracks (group camp area) will remain closed until further notice due to COVID-19.

Dixon Springs State Park is one of several state parks in the Illinois Shawnee Hills. The park is situated on a giant block of sandstone deposited 315 million years ago, which was dropped 500 feet along a fault line that extends northwesterly across Pope County. The resulting rocky scenery gives visitors the chance to explore breathtaking canyons and waterfalls.
Prior to beginning their hikes, visitors are invited to pick up a bird checklist from the site office to aid in spotting the many songbirds species that use the forest. Flowers and mushrooms grow prolifically throughout the forest and await viewing. It is illegal, however, to remove or damage plants, flowers, shrubs or trees. In addition, it is illegal to collect or remove artifacts from state property. Please remember this area is for all to enjoy.
