The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is responsible for providing outdoor recreation opportunities for the residents of this state. The use of wildlife populations, whether it be for hunting or observation, is one aspect of this role. This Hunting Fact Sheet is provided to ensure that regulations governing the use of our wildlife resources are available and understood. In addition, it is useful in acquainting visitors with common species and habitats on the area. In all cases, ask site personnel about additional rules, regulations and site information.

LOCATION: Freeman Mine State Habitat Area is located 1 mile east of Farmersville on Highway 17 in Montgomery County.

DESCRIPTION: Freeman Mine State Habitat Area is an abandoned mine reclamation area. Active habitat management will be occurring throughout the year on the site.

SEASONS, HOURS, LIMITS:

Waterfowl Statewide Closes at 1 p.m. (except last 3 days of Canada Goose season have statewide hours). Blind sites allocated first come, first served at the site.
Youth Waterfowl  Weekend preceding the Central Zone opening day  Closes at 1 p.m.  Blind sites allocated first come, first served at the site.
Pheasant/Quail/Rabbit Site specific (call for info.)  8 a.m. - 4 p.m.  Free Upland Game Permit Application must be submitted online for a lottery drawing to be held in August. The application is available at www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/uplandgame. Hunters will be required to return their harvest card prior to February 15th each year. Failure to submit card will result in loss of hunting privileges for the following year. Permit holders may bring up to three hunting partners, bag limit of 2 cock pheasants, 4 bobwhite quail, and 2 rabbits.
Dove Site specific 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Pheasant/Quail/Rabbit permit holders may harvest dove during the Statewide dove season.
