Kidd Lake State Natural Area (KLSNA) provides
limited hunting opportunities. Bow hunters who are up to a challenge are likely
to encounter deer. Nearby Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve is open for hiking
and observing wildlife only.
Location: 4 miles N of Prairie du Rocher on Bluff
Road
Description: KLSNA is located in the Mississippi River
bottoms in southwestern Illinois. The original Kidd Lake was a shallow body of
water which was then partly drained and is now being farmed. The remnants of
the lake contain a thick stand of bulrush, cattail, and smartweed. Willows are
found in the drier portions of the marsh and a few small ponds of open water
occur in the area. Active habitat management will be occurring
throughout the year on the site.
