Weinberg-King State Park

2022-2023 Season

Map

Introduction: Wildlife habitat enhancement is the objective in improving the opportunity for public hunting at this site. Recent incorporation of wildlife management practices such as the establishment of food plots, travel lanes, and shrub tree plantings coupled with the establishment of high-quality nesting grasses and legumes will significantly improve the habitat conditions for many upland and forest game species. Populations of rabbit, quail, dove, squirrel, deer, and turkey all provide excellent hunting opportunities. Woodcock offer a marginal hunting opportunity depending on their migration patterns. Active habitat management will be occurring throughout the year on the site, including prescribed burning.

Location: Weinberg-King State Park is located four miles east of Augusta immediately off Route 101 in western Schuyler County.

Description: The area is characterized by rolling upland brush areas, sloping grownup fields, and high bluffs along the north boundary. Cultivated fields are found along the west boundary and fallow, brushy fields are scattered throughout the area. Some mature oak-hickory timber is found along the north boundary.
