Illinois Conservation Foundation Partners with ComEd
PECATONICA, IL – Thanks to the generous support of ComEd, the Illinois Conservation Foundation will have scenic new landscaping at the Torstenson Youth Conservation Education Center, located near Pecatonica in Winnebago Co.  ComEd will be purchasing flowers, bushes, trees and equipment for space around the ICF’s 5,000 square-foot Learning Center, and volunteers from ComEd’s Rockford office and parent company Exelon’s Byron Generating Station are donating their time on Tuesday, June 7 to create this beautiful area.

“ComEd is proud to support organizations who are doing great work to beautify and enhance our local communities,” said Altaira Citron, Corporate Relations Representative.  “Our employees volunteer thousands of hours each year to help strengthen the communities where we live, work and raise our families.  Partnering with the ICF is a great fit as we have a shared commitment to preserving the environment and supporting education.”

As a charitable organization dedicated to inspiring the next generation of outdoors enthusiasts, the ICF relies on public support through fundraising and volunteer initiatives.  This partnership with ComEd provides the financial support to offset the costs of materials, as well as the volunteer labor to complete the project.
“We’re thrilled that ComEd has decided to help us complete this much-needed project,” said Eric Schmidt, ICF Executive Director.  “In addition to being visually pleasing, the plants and shrubs we’re choosing will be a part of our nature curriculum and have an educational aspect, as well.”
