Olson Beach at Rock Cut State Park to be Closed Temporarily
Planning underway for dredging project at lake
LOVES PARK, IL – Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) today announced Olson Beach at Rock Cut State Park will be closed for swimming. Due to siltation of the lake in recent years, the shallow depth and warmer water temperatures have diminished the water quality of Olson Lake.
The IDNR is working on a plan to dredge Olson Lake and allow for the lake to be reopened for swimming and other beach activities.  IDNR Director Wayne Rosenthal will be meeting with state representative John Cabello (R-Rockford) at the Olson Lake site soon to discuss what is needed to once again open the lake for the public.
While planning and rehabilitation of Olson Lake proceed, IDNR encourages those interested in beach swimming and recreation to visit other beaches in the region during the upcoming season.  Other facilities include the Rockford Park District’s Standfield Beach at Levings Lake Park, and the swimming beach at Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Recreation Area near Lena.
