Vachel Lindsay Home to Host Three Poets in the Parlor Events
SPRINGFIELD, IL – The public is invited to attend three poetry events in the coming months at the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site in Springfield.  The “Poets in the Parlor” poetry readings on September 17, October 29, and November 12 will provide an opportunity for guests to listen to and discuss poetry in the home of the artist Vachel Lindsay. All programs will begin at 2 p.m.
September 17, 2 p.m.: Kirk’s Garage Poetry Group
For more than 20 years this writer’s collective from St. Louis has focused on one mission—to spark work. Join members of the group as they share their own creations and/or to read from those that inspired them.

October 29, 2 p.m.: Anna Leahy
Anna Leahy is the author of the poetry collections Aperture and Constituents of Matter and of the nonfiction book Tumor and the co-author of Generation Space: A Love Story, Conversing with Cancer, and What We Talk about When We Talk about Creative Writing. Her essays have appeared at The Atlantic, Pop Sugar, The Southern Review, The Pinch, and elsewhere and won the top awards from Ninth Letter and Dogwood in 2016. She directs the MFA program at Chapman University, where she edits the international journal TAB and curates the Tabula Poetica reading series. See more at
November 12, 2 p.m.: Karen Craigo
Karen Craigo is the author of the poetry collections No More Milk (Sundress, 2016) and Passing Through Humansville (Sundress, forthcoming in 2018). She also has a new chapbook, Escaped Housewife Tries Hard to Blend In (Hermeneutic Chaos, 2016). She maintains Better View of the Moon, a daily blog on writing, editing, and creativity, and she teaches writing in Springfield, Missouri. She is the nonfiction editor and former editor-in-chief of Mid-American Review, as well as the interviews editor of SmokeLong Quarterly. See more at

The Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site is one of seven historic sites in the capital city managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
