New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Labor Day,
Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
In the heart of our country stands the Old State Capitol, a reconstruction of Illinois' statehouse from 1840 to 1876. During the twentieth century's civil rights movement, its restorers faithfully recreated the building in which John Jones and Frances Gage worked to expand the meaning of freedom and Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous "House Divided" speech.
We invite you to see and experience the Old State Capitol by taking a guided or self-guided walk through the historic site.
A mask policy and distancing requirements are part of our guidance to ensure a safe guest experience and a safe work environment for our team members.
Staff will be on hand to answer your questions as you view the building. The site is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free scheduled tour times are 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Additional tour times available upon request.
If you have any questions or would like to make a reservation (which are accepted but not required) please call us at 217-785-9363 or email email@example.com
There is no charge for the tour, however, donations to support the historic site are appreciated. You can make a donation online or during your visit.

Our indoor capacity is 150 guests.
A face covering which is worn over your nose and mouth is required for entry to the building, and must be worn at all times while indoors. Guests under the age of 3 are exempt from this requirement. If you do not have a face covering, please stop by the Visit Springfield office at 1 S. Old State Capitol Plaza (Lincoln-Herndon Law Offices building) for a free face covering.
Guests will be invited to use the hand sanitizing stations provided.
Guests will not be permitted to touch any historic furniture, artwork or other artifacts in the building, regardless of sanitizer use.
Guests will be expected to maintain at least a six foot distance from those not in their group, in areas of the site where this is possible.

Inside the kiosk, take the elevator down to the upper level (UL button) of the parking garage, then travel across the garage to the building door and push the call button for entry. If you need assistance, please call 217-785-9363.
