Electronics Recycling

Information about the new Consumer Electronics Recycling Act (CERA) can be viewed at CERA.  This link is also available under Section Navigation located to the right on this page. Counties and municipal joint action agencies in Illinois may elect to participate in the 2019 electronics recycling program by submitting an opt-in form to epa.recycling@illinois.gov and the point of contact designated on the form. A copy of the opt-in form is available here.

The Electronic Products Recycling & Reuse Act establishes a statewide system for recycling and/or reusing a specific set of covered electronic devices that are discarded from residences by requiring electronic manufacturers to participate in the management of discarded and unwanted electronic products.

Registered Collection Locations

It Is Important to call the collector to find out which items they accept for recycling. A collector can appear on the list below and may not be accepting all of the 17 covered electronic devices.

In addition, the Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act states that a consumer may not be charged a fee when bringing their item for recycling, unless a financial incentive of equal or greater value, such as a coupon, is provided. A fee for premium services such as curbside collection, home pick-up, or a similar method of collection is allowed. However, a retailer may collect a fee for any CED or EED accepted.
