Camile Lindsay | Chief of Staff
Camile Lindsay was named chief legal counsel of the Illinois Department of Corrections on July1, 2016. In her position, she oversees the agency-wide legal functions and manages a team of attorneys and support staff. Prior to serving as chief legal counsel, she served as deputy chief legal counsel for the department.
Lindsay began her legal career as an assistant state’s attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted hundreds of cases. She later worked as an assistant attorney general in the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and was assigned to the Prisoner Litigation Unit. As an assistant attorney general, she represented the Illinois Department of Corrections in mandamus cases and section 1983 civil rights actions. She left the Attorney General’s Office in 2010 and became supervisory regional counsel for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. As supervisory regional counsel, she supervised attorneys and support staff assigned to the Child Protection Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Lindsay received her Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Law School. She also has a Master of Arts Degree and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
