    Q: I have received a notice that an “ROT Hold” has been placed on my license. What does this mean and how do I remove it?

    A: You cannot renew your license when a “Retailers' Occupation Tax (ROT) Hold” is placed on your license by the Illinois Department of Revenue. Prior to renewing your license, please check your MyTax Illinois online account to review and pay any outstanding balance (visit the MyTax Illinois Instructions page on this website to learn how to set up and access your online liquor license management account) or call one of the numbers below to remove the hold:

    Q: Can I register and review my brands online?

After logging into your MyTax Illinois account, click “Brand Registration” on the left side of the page under Account Maintenance. Complete the required information and provide the attachments requested on the screen. Processing time for approval will be approximately 3 to 10 business days.     Q: Can I receive a “bartender-for-hire” license to serve liquor at unlicensed parties?

    A: No. The only type of license where alcohol can be served at unlicensed locations is a Caterer (Specialty Retailer) license. Caterer retailer licensees can serve liquor for consumption ONLY as an incidental part of food service. As with other retailer licenses, approval must be granted by your local jurisdiction prior to the issuance of a state caterer’s liquor license.

    Q: What type of liquor license do I need to sell/serve liquor (in my bar/restaurant/liquor store, etc.)?

    A: A Retailer license is required for the sales or service of alcoholic beverages in Illinois. To download the application, please download the Retailer License form. Please note, only current licenses can be renewed online.     Q: Can I review someone else’s liquor license holder information online?

    A: Yes, the general public is allowed to search licensee records by visiting the License Lookup page on this website. If the information you are seeking is a public record, but is not available through the License Lookup feature, you must fill out a FOIA Request Form to receive this information.

    Q: How long does it take to receive a new state Retailer liquor license?

    A: Once your Retailer application is received, it typically takes between 1-5 business days for the ILCC Licensing staff to complete a review of your application. This includes ensuring the application is filled out correctly, proper payment is enclosed, and that copies of all required supporting documents referenced on the application are in place (for example, these documents may include the local liquor license, certificate of insurance, bill of sale, and a copy of the applicant’s deed or lease).
