  1. Lt. Governor

Defense & Local Community Listening Posts

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon is proud to be hosting Defense & Local Community Listening Posts near the state’s three largest military communities in partnership with the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University.  These listening posts will give local residents, military families, employers, employees, community leaders and others an opportunity to voice challenges and opportunities for federal, state and local coordination in their region.

At each listening post participants will be asked a series of questions about shared challenges and experiences, experiences unique to the local community and the state, and experiences unique to local military families and statewide military families.  Participants will also participate in smaller facilitated group discussions.

Lieutenant Governor Simon will share the results of the listening posts with the Interagency Military Base Support and Economic Development Committee, which she chairs.  The Committee, established within the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and vice-chaired by the director of DCEO, coordinates the state’s activities and communications relating to current and former military bases in Illinois, and provides advice and recommendations for base retention, realignment and reuse efforts.

Are you an active duty service member, veteran, military spouse, business owner, local employee, elected official, school administrator, healthcare professional or retiree? Do you live in or near a defense community?

We want to hear from you!
