Lieutenant Governor Listens to Obama

Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon says she was very pleased to hear the Preisdnet's comments at Knox College Wednesday.

Simon says while it's always good to have the President speaking in Illinois, she thought Obama's comments on the economy struck the right tone.

Simon tells WGIL she especially likes how Obama said he would get his economic initiatives done.

"I really liked his attitude that he's going to do what he can as an executive, work with Congress where he can, and when he can't get Congress to work with him, he's going to go to the American people and go to business leaders and philanthropists, and anyone else he can work with as President to put the pressure on to get the job done."

Simon described the speech as, in her words, inspiring.

Simon says she is also pleased to hear that the President wants to continue to make student loan interest rates low, and that he likes the idea of allowing students to get their degrees as quickly as possible.

Governor Pat Quinn and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan also attended the speech. In a press release, Madigan says she, too, was pleased, because she's seen all too closely how badly the economy has affected local communities.
