SPRINGFIELD, Illinois — Lt. Governor Sheila Simon is planning to attend a national conference this week that focuses on efforts to improve access to education for military children and job opportunities for people with disabilities.

The National Lieutenant Governors Association, a bipartisan professional organization for elected officials, has set an annual meeting this week in the nation's capital.

Simon says it's a chance for lieutenant governors to share ideas about things happening in their states. Simon is the association's Midwest region's chair.

The meeting is Wednesday and Thursday.

The group will also hear from U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan, who's giving the keynote address.

Simon won office in 2010. She's recently said she won't seek re-election next year, but is eyeing another public office. She says she hasn't yet decided which one.
